Fossils in Mt Schank
« on: March 02, 2015, 09:30:42 PM »
G'Day

Does anyone recognise the attached critter fossil?
I'm guessing he's a 40,000 year old distant relative of this very much alive critter in a nearby pond.

Cheers Big Ears!

Nice find. I notice that fossil is underwater. Is there a wet cave at Mt Shank we don't know about?  :)

Alright so apparently I'm correct in that the skeleton is very likely a freshwater Cray and likely several thousand years young
but
It's not a fossil 'YET' needs a bit more time before it can be called a Fossil.

Anyhoo
I like it, looks cool & well preserved may also be laying on top of another dead critter but this isn't as clear
perhaps he was eating the other critter when a rock fell on him
Who knows; We could make up any ol' story as he aint giving away anymore secrets!  :-X

Cheers Big Ears!
